October 2007 THIRD THURSDAY: Holiday Side Dish Shake-Up
|
"The Holidays." Those two words can
mean many different things: family,
celebrations, gift-giving, holiday cards,
travel, tradition.......the list is endless, but
somewhere near the top of just about
everyone's list has got to be the holiday
meal. Every family has their own
traditional foods that immediately evoke
the holidays. Roast turkey, candied yams.
Oyster stuffing, pumpkin pie. Roast beef.
Lasagna. Green bean casserole. You
would no more eliminate one of these items from your menu than you
would decide to skip the holidays all together, but sometimes you
just need to inject a little life into your holiday spread!
October's THIRD THURSDAY event, held
October 18, 2007, aimed to do just that. We
provided the turkey, and asked everyone to
pot-luck their "new favorite" holiday side
dish. What a smorgasbord! The tables were
fairly groaning under the bounty. Just like a
real holiday get together, there were spirited
kids running around, too many dishes that you
just "had to get one more little taste of," more
desserts than you probably eat in the whole
rest of the year combined, and a welcome
chance to share a meal and some fellowship
with friends new and old.
Thanks to everyone who joined us and shared
their delicious food. EXTRA SPECIAL
THANKS to our hostess, Karen Fairfield,
who graciously opened up her beautiful
studio for our event.
