Where We Live
building better communities
JUNE 2008 THIRD THURSDAY:
Parents Who Rock Open Mic Night
How many of us sing in the shower, but insist that "Oh no, I can't
sing!", or have a musical instrument gathering dust under the bed?
How many of us wish we could conquer our stage fright and just get
up and rock out once in a while?
Judging by our
JUNE 19, 2008 Third
Thursday, there's quite a few of us
out there!!

Hosted by
Katie Deese (right), with
technical support supplied by
Ronnie
Lee
, we defied the looming rain
clouds and set up on the deck at
The
Pepperoni Grill
in Boiling Spring
Lakes.  Our optimism paid off as the
rain moved on after only a few
The Open Mic!
What a variety!  Ronnie offered karaoke tracks for the singers who
didn't play instruments, so we were treated to some great vocals by
Jen Hancock, Neil Worden and Pete McLintock.  Ronnie and his
wife,
Kathie Lee sang some rockin' tunes as they accompanied
themselves on guitar and keyboard, respectively.  Katie played
piano for her husband,
Mark Deese, who sang a couple of songs,
and
attempted a couple of other songs....his willingness to just
"give it a try" really set a lot of the other would-be performers at
ease!!  Thanks Mark!
Elie Erickson recieted some poetry, and Jen Iapalucci played the
ukulele.  One of the highlights of the evening was definitely
Myron Keslar and Sherry Stocks on guitar and "git-bucket" -
you have to see it to believe it!
Pizza in hand, Neil Worden (left) and Ronnie Lee (center) treated us to some vocal
stylings, while various members of the Richmond clan (right) showed off an
impromptu family act....
sprinkles......

Sadly (for all of us in the audience), Katie had fallen victim to the
dreaded summer crud, and could only manage a couple of songs
before her voice gave out, but she simultaneously warmed up and
wowed the crowd with a beautiful song that she had written for her
daughter before opening up the mic to anyone game enough to give it
a try.
All in all, it was a GREAT evening, and one we are hoping to repeat
soon.  Look for
Where We Live's Open Mic Night to become a
regular feature in the months ahead!!

Cheers to all who participated, and a huge "THANK YOU" to
Katie
Deese, Ronnie Lee,
and Ian Hunting and his staff at The
Pepperoni Grill
for a fantastic night!

Hope to see you all next time!
Our hostess, Katie Deese, kicked off the
evening with a song she wrote for her
daughter, Rebecca.....
....and then accompanied her husband,
Mark Deese, on "Hallelujah", joined by
Ronnie Lee on guitar.
Ronnie and his wife, Kathie Lee, took the
stage for a couple of rockin' numbers....
....before Sherry Stocks and Myron Keslar
introduced us all to the "Git-bucket".
Jen Hancock gave us her best Shania
Twain.....
.....while Pete McLintock promised to love
us forever.
Jen Iapalucci tries to play the ukulele
despite some very nervous sweaty palms...
